Internet: Replacing Traditional Ways we do Things

The Philippines was named as top 16th country with high volume of the internet users by internetlivestats.com. Our country contributed to the 1.3% of the total internet users on the world with 10% growth percentage. This number signifies the need of the Filipino people to connect to the world using the internet. Sadly, only 15% of the 3.4 Million Filipino internet users have mastery on the capabilities of the internet. The remaining 85% of the users only use mainstream site “Facebook.com” as their default communication network.

They use it for gathering information about love ones, find items they wanted to buy, and to read both satire and legitimate news portals.

This article aims to educate Filipinos on the use of internet besides knowing social media site like Facebook, how search engine “Google” works, and other uses of internet that some fairly know.

Source of Entertainment

Youtube allows you to search all
kinds of entertainment you are looking
for
The world we knew is rapidly evolving as we are in the digital generation. Our cable TV that we usually watch at our television set can now be watched on your smartphone everywhere through online streaming webpages like iFlix or Netflix. We don’t really need to wait for a festival to enjoy unique entertainment such as daredevil acts, or have a performer as our source of worldwide. Entertainment (based on your own liking) can now be seen through one website “Youtube.com”.

YouTube will also give you the power to watch entertainment without the mandatory pesky ads coming from companies in television. It would also allow you to watch anything under the sun according to what you wanted to find. This includes Music Videos, Amateur Dancing and Singing, Funny Stuffs, Gagshows, Stand-up Comedy, original skits, and TV shows from different countries across the globe.

YouTube is the largest video streaming platform on the web. It was made popular by "Google" it's parent company. Now the website is home of different entertainment platform such as "Product", "Game"and "Place" reviews,  Its biggest competitors are Dailymotion and Vimeo. YouTube gets the highest number of videos, users, and brand since 80% of the total internet users on the world is found on YouTube.

The website is also training ground and source of future artists. Popular online celebrity like Ray William Johnson, Smosh, and PewDiePie became an instant internet celebrity, thanks to YouTube. The individuals are allegedly waging 100x more than ordinary citizens since the website is integrated with Google Adsense which is the primary source of income of YouTubers. Google Adsense allows advertisers to advertise on channels with great impressions (viewership)

YouTube is also home not only for entertainment but also for news. Large news portal like CNN, CBS, RT and Telegram has their own YouTube channels. These channels are playing playback of their news, and usually news updates on continuous news features.

Banking and Account Management
Online banking allows users to monitor their funds wirelessly without spending time to go to the bank to manually monitor their money through checkbooks and passbooks. This also allows people to avoid falling in line on long queue in banks or payment centers, allowing users to pay internet, electric bills and credit cards in one simple click without going out from the couch. Mobile banking also allows users to transfer money from one account to another or monitor investment and stocks..

Services are also easy to find with the help of Location services and business listings. Business listings such as Yelp, Yalwa allow business owners to sign up and declare their outlet locations. It is also fairly useful to users since Google integrated mapping services with business listing. Listings also permits users to see open and close dates of a certain store as well as an accurate direction towards a certain listing even before the user go out from his home.

BPI offers easiest online banking experience as per my experience. They integrated
payment centers and bank in one digital outlet.
A Philippine company Bank of Philippine Islands (BPI) - offers easy to understand mobile banking systems from paying bills, transferring funds and easy way to apply for a credit card. I've been a subscriber for a short period of time but their mobile banking is easy way to monitor banking transactions both for ATM and checking accounts.

Establishments like Converge ICT Solutions Inc. offers convenient online payment methods. This will give subscribers more payment options in different locations through bank transactions or online payment methods. You can use your online banking account to pay your internet bills without any delay, or long queue on payment centers.

Tip: You should always log-off your online banking account and clear the internet browser's cookies before you leave. Not doing so will make you open your doors to network hackers. Do not ever let your browser auto-save your password. Mobile banking can easily transfer money from your account to the hackers account in a second.

Fast, Affordable, and Convenient Communication
In early days of 1900’s it would take an hour or two to have a short message across from one general to another. Decision making in the early generations depends on the communication. The individual with the fastest communication will able to decide more quickly.  People from older generation would write letters to be mailed within 30 to 60 days (depending on the location). The speed of transmission of communication will always be reliant on the devices present (telegram).

Unlike in this generation, people will never have to suffer waiting months before a letter from overseas arrive. It would take approximately split of a second to connect to people across the globe with the help of the data transmitted by internet service providers.  We can now enjoy non-stop video call from our love ones from the other side of world without spending additional centavo with the help of modern technology and the internet. We don't have to utilize old large equipment and phone lines to connect. The old wired communication lines are now being replaced by Wireless technology, and most of the hardware used like the telephone is now integrated with our smartphones or computers. And connecting doesn't require additional operators since computer messaging software such as Skype, WeChat and Messenger can connect even without peripheral hardware.

Telecommunication and Cable TV companies have integrated internet service in their product bundle since internet could imitate both telephone and Cable. This allows businesses to have customers avail their services while getting internet add-on.

Purchasing
On a greater good, we become smart buyers when it comes to purchasing. We tend to check prices, description and uses on item we are likely to buy. Teaching us to become wise by searching for reviews before we purchase an item, on the other hand, Internet also taught us to be materialistic and impulsive on certain things that our heart desires.

Monopoly in business also died after the outbreak of businesses in internet. Prices have become competitive as many competitors dwell to the large marketplace called Advertising list. These lists allow viewers to purchase online using their credit card. And the good thing about is that people can purchase using their mobile phone, and the item will be directly delivered to our home. Purchasing can be done using your mobile phone or desktop.

Pure Democracy

Democracy is heavily practiced in the world of internet. In this generation, communication is being conveyed in real-time. The word “trending” had its throne set when “Twitter” was born, unlike in early years of the 1800’s solely newsletters and newspaper are the major means of communicating news to the nation, and it would take days if not months for people to react if they agree or against it. In this year’s generation, the speed on how people react on certain topics relies on two factors, the speed of their internet subscription, and how they gathered the information. The
Several information by people receive through internet are likely to be misinterpreted by others. As personalities go clash with one another as some people may think that posting black guys eating watermelon is funny, while another individual may take it as Racist. The Reactions over generated online are hastily judged by most of us.  We are very brave in giving our own stand against a certain issue even without knowing much fact about both sides of the story. Netizen bash other people. This is the fact that we know that our complaints are likely to be heard and seen by different types of people,

Do you know what CIR (Committed Information Rate) is?

In the Converge ICT's FTTX plan, the Committed Information Rate (CIR) is displayed as "Minimum Speed" There are many things our Internet Service Providers won't just tell us. Some of it are just "little jargons" in which we cannot totally understand, though some are very crucial when it comes to the impact to "us", subscribers. In a good way, it'll save us the trouble understanding the technicalities of network and communication. But in a bad way, not knowing these "technicalities" limits our capability to maximize our usage. One of the hidden terms that our ISP failed to disclose in their ads is the CIR "Committed Information Rate."   It is important to know what CIR is especially when it acts as a "guarantee" that the internet connection will be having it's minimum bandwidth that the users can utilize in the plan.  Why is it important to know what is CIR? It's plainly simple, it gives the user ass
